Metallurgical Laboratory

 Equipment in Metallurgical Laboratory is  as following:

1. Cutter:

This device is located in the Metallurgical Laboratory and is used to cut small samples (maximum dimensionsc of 20*50*450 mm). 

Small samples include metallographic samples, quantometry sample, and etc.


Cutting operation is done in a closed chamber that has a valve view. This device uses a soapy water pump to cool the blade and the sample.

Furthurmore, The device has a slow loading lever for cut the plates.

The following description shows how the device works:


The Sample is placed between two clamp at the edges of the device. After closing the door, the device and soapy water pump is activated.


2. Mount:

This device which is made by Behtavan Co. is located in Metallurgical Laboratory and is used to mount the cut sample into polymeric material.

Due to having small metallographic samples and their maintenance problems during sanding and polishing by hand, the samples must be mounted so that by placing 
the sample inside the polymeric membrane, sanding and polishing samples becomes easier.

The following description shows how the device works:

First, we put the sample and the polymeric material between two disks inside a metallic cylinder and put them under heat and needed pressure, the sample is placed inside the polymeric membrane.

Then we press the jack button and after the coming up the disc, we put the part on which we want to do metallography on the lower disk.

Next, By repressing the Jack button, the sample goes down with the disk. We put polymeric materials on the sample and then put the upper disk on it.

After that we close the cap. We set the temperature to 200 degrees Celsius, under the heat of atound 25 minutes and the cooling time of about 8 minutes.


3. Polishing machine:

This device is located in metallurgical laboratory and is used for sanding and polishing.



The device has an input and an output for water and two rotating discs that rotate with speed of 7500RPM.
The first disc is used for sanding (made from soft to hard) on mounted specimens.
The second disc is used for polishing samples and simultaneously uses Al2O3 dilutionlution for polishing.


The follwing description shows how the device works:

There is a plastic plate on each rotating disc, so that after removing the plastic plate, we put sandpaper or polish if needed on the rotating disk and we put the metallic talc to hold them.
sanding or polishing is done at this stage.
There is a tap of water on the device that is for discarding the chips of sample during sanding and its pressure is adjustable.

 

4. Microscope:

This device is located in Metallurgical Laboratory and is used to analysing the microstructure of the alloy.
The device is capable of enlarging pictures up to 1000 times and connecting to computers.
The mentioned microscope has a three-mega-pixel camera for taking pictures .


5. Heat treatment furnace:

 

This device is in the Metallurgical Laboratory and is used to simulate the conditions of production line on the cut sample.


 

The Maximum dimension of a sample that we can place inside the furnace is 200*250*350mm .

 

The maximum temperature of furnace while working is 1200 ° C.

After this stage we use the microscope with a magnification of 100-1000 to study the alloy microstructure and we send the results to the management.
